To reveal its treasures to the Japanese public, the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese lands in Tokyo as a special guest at the Tre Bicchieri World Tour event, which sells out on October 25 at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton venue.

A tasting desk, positioned in the long perimeter area of the hall set up for the walk around tasting, narrated the pearls of the Denominations dell’Oltrepò Pavese, land of 6 Doc and 1 DOCG, with the tasting of labels able to tell the variety and typicality of a territory proposed for the first time to a very knowledgeable audience curious to know the quality level of this wine area for certain markets still little explored.

We were pleasantly surprised by the response of our tasters, who were numerous, knowledgeable and curious to taste and learn about the stories behind these Doc. - said Consorzio director Carlo Veronese - We saw a very pleasant, expected, buzz in the bubbly area, I mean the area that represented Oltrepò Pavese DOCG Metodo Classico Pinot Nero, registering a decidedly positive success. The other typologies did not betray expectations either, from the Riesling particularly appreciated, to the reds, where the skills of the winemakers and producers in interpreting vines and style amazed: from Barbera Doc to Bonarda Doc, to Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC , so in red, with "fresh" vintages and gradually played instead on time, maintaining however the matrix of elegance that has no time. Typical of this land of Pinot Nero. Finally, it was not surprising to see the curious knowledge, which proved widespread and positive, of Bonarda Doc, identified as interesting and of quality, liked especially by restaurateurs for its pairing with international dishes, Italian and even Japanese cuisine. The Sangue di Giuda, our sweet red DOC, played its part in demonstrating that from appetizer to dessert the offerings of these Doc are completed with curious and always interesting products.

Then the "Oltrepò Pavese" Masterclass organized in the tasting room of the Tre Bicchieri International event, to delve into our wine excellence, was very much appreciated. The event, which saw 39 participants (opened last minute to 10 percent more accredited than expected), also counted as a seminar for 8 journalists, as well as being attended by some members of the Academie du Vin, importers and buyers.

Carlo Veronese, director of Consorzio in tandem with Isao Miyajima, a Japanese journalist and taster of Italian wines for Gambero Rosso, led the masterclass, which was approached as a harmonious journey of discovery dell’Oltrepò Pavese, through the narration of the different Denominations.

A beautiful tasting," said Isao Miyajima, "that showed this great varied variety of the Territory dell’Oltrepò Pavese, a tasting that first attracted and then fascinated those who attended, offering the opportunity to taste wines that are still not drunk in Japan. The masterclass made it clear that the quality is there, that this wine-growing area is great and needs to be presented and communicated to make more and more known that this magnificent territory of Italian wine exists. And when the territory and its history are there, it really is all there.

The tasting counter that allowed buyers, professional operators, sommeliers and restaurateurs, and the trade press to sample the pearls dell’Oltrepò Pavese presented these labels for tasting: in the "bubbly" area Oltrepò Pavese DOCG Metodo Classico Pinot Nero: Ersaf Regione Lombardia, Giorgi Wines, Oltrenero, Tenuta Mazzolino, for Oltrepò Pavese Doc Riesling : Tenuta Travaglino and Cà di Frara, for Oltrepò Pavese Barbera Doc : Bruno Verdi, for the Bonarda area dell’Oltrepò Pavese Doc: La Travaglina, for the Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC: Losito & Guarini, Isimbarda, Torti Eleganza del Vino, La Piotta, for the Sangue di Giuda dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC: Bertè & Cordini.
