With 452 admissions registered by AIS Milan, the one on Monday, February 13, 2023, at The Westin Palace Hotel was a very successful event, according to the established style of Oltrepò Terra di Pinot Nero. A meeting with AIS Milano in collaboration with Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese that staged a great tasting desk (33 companies present) dedicated to the different expressions of one of the noblest vines on the planet: Pinot nero, so historic in Oltrepò Pavese. Great emotions were also given by the two masterclasses attended by oenologist Mario Maffi, conducted by Luciano Ferraro and Bruno Ferrari, where the great quality of multifaceted interpretations emerged.
It was a fundamental tasting event dedicated to Pinot nero d'Oltrepò, to represent in the glasses DOC and DOCG the largest area dedicated to this vine in Europe, the main Italian area after the French Burgundy and Champagne. More than 3,000 hectares are reserved for the cultivation of this noble vine that finds great expression in Oltrepò Pavese and that today represents more than ever the excellence of the territory's wine.

The tasting desk on Monday, February 13, organized by AIS Milano, in collaboration with the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese, was part of a larger project to promote the Pinot Nero -based wines of the territory dell’Oltrepò Pavese, a historic and important viticultural area south of Milan at the intersection of 4 regions and provinces. It is an activity carried out with the contribution of MASAF that features wines of the types Oltrepò Pavese DOCG Metodo Classico Pinot Nero, Oltrepò Pavese DOCG Metodo Classico Pinot Nero Rosé, Pinot Nero Dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC (also Riserva).

The two masterclasses, conducted by Corriere della Sera journalist Luciano Ferraro and sommelier Bruno Ferrari, were dedicated to Metodo Classico sparkling wines from Pinot nero grapes and still wines from Pinot Nero grapes vinified in red.

The room dedicated to the tasting of Pinot nero d'Oltrepò Pavese was a riot of smiles and satisfaction for those tasting. "We are very proud of this event, which represents an excellent part of Oltrepò Pavese, so historic and modern at the same time, where it is clear that we play up the multifacetedness of the terroirs that we then find in the glasses. It is the pride of a land of wine of thirteen thousand hectares, three thousand of which are dedicated to Pinot nero, pearl among the pearls of our wonderful territory," said at the opening of the proceedings Gilda Fugazza, president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese.

"I believe it was the largest tasting ever of Pinot nero expressions represented by DOC and DOCG of the Oltrepò Pavese area," commented Carlo Veronese, director of Consorzio Tutela, "an interesting moment of openness, sharing, group satisfaction and communication with the sommeliers and with a qualified and selected part of the press, which clearly told us at what point in quality we have arrived. A traced road that must now be translated into economic development and conquest of a consonant and satisfactory market level."
