Innovate in behavior as well
and in value actions

A Consorzi di tutela must reaffirm and support projects and indicate rules to follow in order to make progress, to innovate in behavior and value actions as well. Thus, the Board of Directors of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese has decided to focus more and more on the issue of sustainability and to emphasize the necessary actions by reaffirming a convinced adherence to the theme of sustainable development.

Why sustainability. Because it is a global need and also a response to consumers.
Role of the Consorzio. We want the Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese to be not only a guarantee of quality but also a guarantee of environmental, economic and social sustainability, what we like to call ethical sustainability. We would like to involve all stakeholders in the supply chain and the local area, in sustainable practices.

Because now. Sustainability is no longer just an opportunity but has become a necessity.
The Relaunch Decree Law converted into Law no. 77 of July 17, 2020 established the Wine Supply Chain Sustainability Certification System. It is a set of production rules and good practices defined with a specific production specification based on the latest environmental, economic and social sustainability guidelines.
The path is long but we have already left, perhaps without even knowing it. For example, we started with integrated pest management for the wine supply chain, a practice that our member companies have been following for several years, and it has been taken as a reference for defining good production practices.

Some updated data for 2019. The agricultural sector is both responsible for and a victim of climate change. According to the UN, as early as 2030, the average global temperature could rise by 1.5 °C. If the temperature increases by 2°C by 2050, 56% of current wine-growing regions could disappear*(Source: Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique – Inra)

A global challenge

Sustainability is not a purely environmental issue.

Since the beginning of the signing of the 2030 Agenda there has been increasing awareness in civil society, the business community, national government, administrations and the public about the need to adopt an integrated approach and concrete measures to address a major socio-economic paradigm shift, the many complex environmental and institutional challenges.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an action agenda for people, planet and prosperity.

Signed on Sept. 25, 2015 by the governments of the 193 member countries of the United Nations, and endorsed by the UN General Assembly, the Agenda consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framed within a broader program of action consisting of 169 targets or goals, associated with them, to be achieved in the environmental, economic, social and institutional spheres by 2030.
This program does not solve all problems, but it is a good common foundation from which to build a different world and give everyone a chance to live in an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable world. The goals set for sustainable development have global validity, affecting and involving all countries and components of society, from private companies to the public sector, from civil society to information and cultural workers.
